Once Upon a Banana  by Jennifer Armstrong and illustrated by David Small is essentially a wordless picture book. This beautifully illustrated book does tell a distinct story though. My fear of wordless picture books has been laid to rest because this one really works!

The story begins on the end papers (the pages that are the inside of the book cover) when a street jugglers monkey runs off. The monkey sees a cart of bananas and jumps on it, stealing a banana. After that, the madness ensues! The monkey peels the banana and the peeling instigates a series of unfortunate events. On each page, there is a sign to read, and at the end, the signs navigate you around the map of the town square in the story and lead you back to where you start!

This book is a laugh out loud, rollicking good time that any young child is sure to enjoy while snuggled up next to you!
